Gibson Pewter Shop News - Spring 2013

Greetings!

A belated Happy Spring to one and all! There has been so much going on around here, I’ve almost lost track of time. But the strong scent from the lilacs outside of the pewter shop is a sure sign of Spring.

Another sure sign of Spring is wedding season. We have two couples registered with us now and have been busy with numerous other wedding orders as well. The Napkin Rings have been quite popular lately since many families are going back to cloth napkins.

Father’s Day is right around the corner and we’ve had a number of orders for Tankards and Mugs. What a great gift for Dad!

Oldest Surviving American Made Metal Spinning Lathe?

Over a year ago, a retired second generation pewterer, John Starvish, Jr. brought me a run down old metal spinning lathe which had been used in his father’s shop many years ago here in N.H. What makes this lathe extra special is that it may be the oldest surviving American made metal spinning lathe extant AND we know where it has been since the day it was made, circa 1860! Thanks a million John! Here’s the finished product.

Antique American Bronze Ladle Mold

Another great find this year is an antique American bronze ladle mold. Ladle molds are scarce items and to find one which casts the handle and bowl together is rarer still. Special thanks to Wayne Hilt of Hilt pewter for helping us acquire this important mold! I’ve cast several and will have them for sale soon.

Gibson Pewter on Chronicle

Some of you know Gibson Pewter was featured in April on NH- WMUR’s evening show, Chronicle. If you missed the segment, you can follow the link from our website. They did a great job and we had many folks visit as a result. Check it out! Thanks WMUR!!!

Last but not least, Please join us Saturday & Sunday, June 8th & 9th (rain or shine) here in Hillsborough Center for the Hillsborough Area Artisan’s 9th Annual Spring into Summer Faire. It’s a great opportunity to meet some of New Hampshire’s finest artists and purchase their work.
