Fine, Handcrafted Pewter in the Great American Tradition
Philadelphia Sugar Bowl

Limited Quantities - Hammered Fruit Bowl

photo of Hammered Fruit Bowl

I’ve made a special piece this year which I intend to unveil in the Living With Crafts exhibit at the fair. It is a Fruit Bowl that was inspired by the work of the late Fred Pulsifer, a pewterer from Exeter, NH, whom I watched at the fair with my father, back in the 1970′s.

The bowl is hammered entirely with paper mallets over wooden forms and the four panel base is reticulated, a process which involves extreme heat and fast quenching with a moist cloth. Tricky work, but the end result is quite dramatic.
