Gibson Pewter Shop News - February 2010

Events & Announcements

As I stand at my lathe and look outside at all of the snow, it's hard to believe that Spring is just around the corner. After brisk year end sales, I'm rebuilding my inventory and looking forward to a better year. If the last four months of pewter sales are any indication of where the economy is headed, I'd say things are slowly improving. Fingers crossed.

Next month look for my new antiques page on the Gibson Pewter website. It will feature a few moderately priced, American and British antique pewter pieces!

I have not raised my prices for the last two years in spite of ever rising material and energy costs. But I know times are still tough for a lot of folks, including myself. Therefore, I'll hold the line on prices again this year in an effort to keep you, my great customers, coming back for all of your gift-giving needs. Buying and supporting local producers I think is one element of community strength.

In addition to receiving my monthly Shop News newsletter, you can also stay in touch via Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. I was slow to hop on the social networking bandwagon, but slowly I'm finding my way and reconnecting with friends old and new.

How To Be the Stylish Center of Attention

We're rolling out the Centerpiece Bowl this month. It is a real beauty. An original design and a contemporary form, it has a low flared rim with a distinctive beaded edge and an incised line on the inside bottom. At nearly 12" in diameter and 2" in height, it truly is worthy of being a centerpiece.

You'll also be amazed at the capacity of this vessel. Fill it with fruit, nuts, veggies, or even a a low silk flower arrangment to bring cheer to your meals and get you through until he season of new buds.

A Place to Put That Steaming Mug of Cocoa

It's been a long time in the planning stages, but I finally hunkered down and designed a modern-day sized coaster to match the base of larger mugs and other beverage holders. The Gibson Pewter version of Super Size Me!

Our Jumbo Coasters are almost 5" in diameter and made from thick, heavy gauge pewter stock. They are rugged and ready to work. With an inside base diameter of 4" (!), they can handle your biggest coffee mug or glass with ease. And these are nice and heavy. They won't stick to the bottom of your glass the way other coasters often do.
